Getting Ready For Christmas
The house, the gifts, the food.. here is how I am doing it this Christmas.
I absolutely love this time of year. Cosying up the house, the delicious party food, entertaining and hosting at the house and of course the excitement of having a three year old who believes in Santa Claus.
Since having Theo, we normally alternate where we spend Christmas. One year it is with Jamie’s family, the next year it is with mine.. however this year we’ve decided to stay at home and let whoever wants to, come spend it with us.
The thought of rushing out the door early morning, just after Theo has ripped all his new presents open and spending the majority of the day in the car just doesn’t sound like the Christmas I would like.
Instead I want to wake up, enjoy the chaos of the new toys all over the house, soak in Theo’s excitement, lounge around in our matching family Chelsea Peers Christmas Pjs and eat all the Christmas chocolates.. we love a quality street in our household.
In the lead up to Christmas I like to prepare the house.. organise cupboards, deep clean the washing machine and do a clear out of any old toys/clothes and take them to our local baby bank. (We support Little Village in Tooting).
I feel like this allows me to go into the Christmas period with a clear mind, a decluttered house with minimal things to do other than enjoy the festivities.
We have just celebrated Theo’s 3rd birthday which makes buying gifts for Christmas a little harder. What else does he need? We don’t want to over clutter the house with even more bits but I also want Theo to experience the joy of coming down in the morning and seeing all the presents underneath the Christmas tree. Me and Jamie don’t go big on presents for each other… we normally do each other a stocking and a few other small bits.
Theo breaks up for Christmas next week and is off for just under 4 weeks so I need to plan a couple of days out for us as well as some fun activities at home. I do absolutely love having him at home with me, not having to rush out the door in the morning and spending some good quality time together however the juggle is definitely hard. Managing work, the house and him sometimes feels impossible.
We’ve got a few different dates throughout December where we are hosting family and friends. I need to start planning the food and my recipes for this. We have a Christmas playdate coming up at the house where a few of Theo’s friends are coming over and I want to plan some fun, kiddy, christmassy bits for them to eat.
Anyway.. thank you for reading my first ever Substack post. I have lots of different bits I shall look forward to posting on here… stay tuned for some Christmas gifting inspiration, festive recipes for hosting, how to plan the ultimate Christmas playdate for toddlers and much more.
